Wikipedia. Fact checked by thousands of people everyday. And manipulated (twisted, spun, defiled) by lots of others.

Fortunately this guy (among other devotees) is keeping an eye on things. Virgil Griffith built a website called WikiScanner. His tagline: “Creating minor public relations disasters, one company at a time.”

Wired explains:

[The site] offers users a searchable database that ties millions of anonymous Wikipedia edits to organizations where those edits apparently originated, by cross-referencing the edits with data on who owns the associated block of internet IP addresses.

Steve Yelvington lists a few of the wiki-cheats — Scientologists, Dell Computer and the NYT, which wrote about the site yesterday.
